Growing Up in Ottawa

Our parents, Ernest Coulson and Isabel MacNeill were part of the Greatest Generation of the 20th century that fought and survived World War II. They met in Ottawa during the mid 1940's and were married on June 26, 1947 at St. Theresa's Parish.
They lived in downtown Ottawa for a few years and eventually moved to the west end of the city in a community called Carleton Place, settling in a newly built home on Inverness Street. For the next several decades, our parents raised a family of six children (Family Picture L-R: Cathy, Malcolm, Liz, Isabel, Ernie, Greg, Virginia, Brian).
The NOW part of this space highlights some of the memories we experienced as a family growing up in Ottawa and a special place called Silver Lake that we continue to enjoy with our own families.
The THEN part of this space traces the ancesral history of the Coulson and MacNeill families from the time when they first arrived in Canada in the early 1800's to the birth of our parents. We hope you enjoy the stories and pictures we discovered about our ancestors as they strived to make a better life for themselves and their children.
